Stop 3 is at the project weather station. There are several different instruments that have been keeping track of the weather here since 1996.
To the right of the weather station are many of the instruments we use to collect water samples such as piezometers, lysimeters, and wells.
Using these instruments, we can get an accurate picture of how groundwater moves and how levels fluxuate. We can also see how water in the unsaturated (or vadose) zone of the soil moves through the buffer.
We can take samples of this water from these instruments and analyze them in the lab for levels of nitrate, phosphorus, and other chemicals.
