When the wetland is done being formed and clay is lining the bottom of the area, it is time to plant some of the water-loving plant species that thrive in wetland areas. Here you see a student planting cattail (Typha latifolia) rhizomes throughout the wetland area. |

Here, you can clearly see the rhizome and leaf stalk that get planted. Cattails need part of a stalk on the rhizome to be out of the water when planted. This is the only way for the plant to get oxygen to the roots. |
