Since
the early 1800's, flooding has become a larger problem in agricultural and urban
settings. Vegetation and meanders that were near the stream before have been
removed to make way for crops and grazing areas.
Doing
this created higher flood intensity because vegetation slows water from overland
flow, and increases infiltration rates.
