A boulder weir is a basic grade control structure that acts like a beaver dam to slow water behind it and creates a "riffle" that water spills over.
Boulder Weir Specifications:
  • Each crest stone is a 2'x3'x4' block of poured concrete.
  • There are crushed rock aprons on either side of crest stones: upstream side at a 4:1 slope, downstream side at a 20:1 slope.
  • 50% of crushed rock used for the aprons is class E or greater than 90 lbs per rock.
  • each wier required approximately 8-10 crest stones and 150 tons of rock.
